Scalabrini Center Explainer Video

2025

An animated explainer video created for the Scalabrini Centre, communicating the barriers faced by children on the move when accessing their educational rights in South Africa.

Conducting independent research into educational rights for children in South Africa, as well as meeting with representatives from the Scalabrini centre, allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the systemic barriers that people on the move face when attempting to access constitutional rights.

Translating the research into narrative and visual form allowed me to explore storytelling and design as a communication tool. I wrote the script as a rhyming children’s story and developed the visual language through illustration, hand-painted textures and a combination of frame-by-frame character animation and keyframe animation.

The final explainer video features illustration, 2D animation, and a subtle 3D parallax effect to create a warm and engaging visual experience.
